Don't miss tomorrow's special screening of Between the Stone and the Flower, featuring a discussion with renowned Crypto-Jewish genealogist, author, and film subject Genie Milgrom and Director of Jews of the Americas at Brandeis University, Dalia Wassner!

BETWEEN THE STONE AND THE FLOWER

Thursday, April 4, 7:00 PM

Screening at West Newton Cinema.

Massachusetts Premiere

Born in Havana, Cuba, and raised in Miami, Genie Milgrom's education was steeped in Roman Catholicism, from grade school to university. Despite her upbringing, she carried a persistent sense of disconnection within her Spanish Catholic surroundings, ultimately learning she has a lineage of Jewish relatives dating back centuries.
Genie's story is one of twists and turns as she confronts the challenging choice to transition from her traditional Catholic background to embracing Judaism, ultimately opting for an Orthodox path. Her decision sends shockwaves through her family and friends, while her own conviction about her family's Jewish roots in the Iberian Peninsula centuries prior only deepens.
Between the Stone and the Flower guests
The screening is followed by an in-person conversation with Film Subject/Producer Genie Milgrom, moderated by Dalia Wassner, Ph.D., Director of Jews of the Americas at Brandeis University.

Please join Boston Jewish Film for our April 2024 BJF Film Club meetup to discuss Footnote, on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at 7 PM at the JCC Greater Boston for an exciting and lively conversation led by Ann Bersani of Boston Jewish Film.
Professors Eliezer and Uriel Shkolnik, father and son, have dedicated their lives to the study of the Jewish scriptures. Eliezer is a stubborn and methodical scholar who has never been recognized for his work; Uriel is a rising star, someone admired and praised by his colleagues. The fragile balance that has kept their personal relationship almost intact is broken in an unexpected way by a simple phone call.
HOW TO WATCH: Stream Footnote for free on Tubi or for rent on Prime Video, AppleTV, YouTube, Vudu, or Google Play.
Screen the film on your own before the meetup. Registration is required – the fee to attend is $3.00. Light refreshments will be provided at the event.
This event is in partnership with JCC Greater Boston.
